This was among the first books on my reading journey. Read it in a time of sadness and dejection. Alhamdulillah, benefited from it a great deal and still go through it from time to time.
Don’t Be Sad is replete with verses of Qur’an and Hadith, inspirational quotes, poetry, short stories, practical advice, and sayings of companions as well as of the wise.
This book does a great job by presenting to the readers the Islamic solution to the question of sadness, depression and grief and urges its readers to adopt a positive, pragmatic and a grateful outlook on life.
The author summarizes the book succinctly in his introduction with these words:
“I wrote this book for anyone who is living through pain and grief or who has been afflicted with a hardship, a hardship that results in sadness and restless nights. For the cure, I have filled the pages of this book with dosages taken from various sources — the Qur’an, the Sunnah, poetry, poignant anecdotes, parables, and true stories.”
I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is going through a state of sadness, grief or despair in his/her life. Whoever reads it with an open mind will appreciate the Islamic outlook on life.
